After the last years’ thinned out festivals due to the corona pandemic, we are pleased to present this year’s highlights of the 2022 festival summer.
Ludovic Tézier will take part in some wonderful projects at some of the finest festivals in Europe:
Savonlinna Opera Festival
Tosca by Giacomo Puccini
Ludovic Tézier will be singing Scarpia on the 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, and 15th of July.
Ludovic Tézier and Cassandre Berthon will also be performing in a recital on the 17th of July.
Verbier Festival
Un ballo in maschera by Giuseppe Verdi
Ludovic Tézier will sing Renato on the 25th of July.
Arena di Verona
La traviata by Giuseppe Verdi
Ludovic Tézier will sing Giorgio Germont on the 30th of July and 6th of August.
Salzburger Festspiele
Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti
Ludovic Tézier will sing Lord Enrico Ashton on the 25th of August.
Bayreuther Festspiele
Okka von der Damerau can be seen at this year’s Festival in the new production Das Rheingold (31th of July, 10th and 25th of August 2022 and in Siegfried as Erda and as 1st Norn in Götterdämmerung.
Albert Dohmen returns to Bayreuth after his successful role debut as Hagen (Götterdämmerung) at the Vienna State Opera and subsequently at the Wagner Days of Müpa Budapest, Albert Dohmen returns to Bayreuth with this role and as Landgraf Hermann (Tannhäuser).
Catherine Foster can be seen as Isolde in Roland Schwab’s new production of Tristan und Isolde.
In addition, Catherine Foster will sing two concerts of selected scenes and duets together with Klaus Florian Vogt and conducted by Andris Nelsons. The concerts will take place on Wednesday, the 31st of August 2022, 6:00 pm and Thursday, the 1st of September 2022, 6:00 pm.
Catherine Foster is giving a master class as part of the Bayreuth Festival, between the 11th and 13th of July. The final concert will take place on the 14th of July.
Martin Gantner returns to the Bayreuth Festival as Telramund following his sensational performances this season as Kothner at the Metropolitan Opera and as Friedrich Telramund (Lohengrin) at the Staatsoper Berlin, the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others.
Attilio Glaser will be Froh at this year’s Festival in the new production of Das Rheingold. He will also sing the Steuermann (Der fliegende Holländer) once again and can also be seen as Walter von der Vogelweide (Tannhäuser).
Ekaterina Gubanova returns to the Bayreuth Festival as Brangäne in Roland Schwab’s new production of Tristan und Isolde, as well as Venus in Lohengrin.
After his great success as Wotan in Copenhagen and Zurich, Tomasz Konieczny will sing Wotan in Die Walküre and the Wanderer in Siegfried in this year’s new Ring production.
Christa Mayer will sing Fricka in Das Rheingold, Fricka/Schwertleite in Die Walküre and Waltraute in Götterdämmerung in the new Ring production in Bayreuth this year.
Tuuli Takala will be singing Hirte in Tannhäuser at the end of a wonderful season, with performances in leading roles in Hamburg, Zurich, Helsinki and Dresden.
Wilhelm Schwinghammer will sing Fafner in Das Rheingold and Siegfried in the new Ring production.
Klaus Florian Vogt sings at this year’s festival Siegmund in the new production of Die Walküre, as well as the title role in Lohengrin.
He can also be seen together with Catherine Foster and under the baton of Andris Nelsons in two concerts with selected scenes and duets. The concerts will take place on Wednesday, the 31st of August 2022, and Thursday the 1st of September 2022 at 6:00 pm.
Bregenzer Festspiele
Ricarda Merbeth can be seen as Brünnhilde in the concert performance of the third act of Richard Wagner’s Siegfried at the Bregenz Festival on the 31st of July. The Vienna Symphony Orchestra will perform under the baton of Karina Canellakis.
Brian Mulligan will sing Sharpless in Andreas Homoki’s new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Performances will take place between the 22nd of July and the 21st of August. You can find the evening line-up at short notice here:
Edinburgh International Festival
At this year’s Edinburgh International Festival Günther Groissböck can be heard as Rocco and Gideon Poppe as Jaquino in a concert version of Beethoven’s Fidelio. The concert will take place on 10th of August.
Festival d’Aix-en-Provence
A world premiere will take place during the festival: Il Viaggio, Dante by Pascal Dusapin. An intimate journey through this opus magnum of European culture – the Divine Comedy – from the circles of hell to Beatrice’s enigmatic laughter in heaven.
Christel Loetzsch will sing the Giovane Dante, performances will take place on the 8th, 13th, 15th, and 17th of Juli.
Karine Deshayes will make her role debut as Norma in a concert version of Vincento Bellini’s opera of the same name at this year’s festival on July 18.
Festival del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino
Mandy Fredrich and AJ Glueckert will be singing Beethoven 9th Symphony with the Chorus and Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino under the baton of Zubin Mehta at the 84th Festival of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The performances will take place on the 13th in Florence, on the 19th in Macerata as part of the Opera Festival and on June 20 as part of the Encore Classical Music Festival at the Marbella Arena.
Festival des Soirées Lyriques de Sanxay
Marina Viotti sings at Festival Soirées Lyriques de Sanxay the role of Rosina in Rossinis Il barbiere di Siviglia. The performances are on the 09th, 11th & 13th of August.
Festival International d’Opéra Baroque Beaune and Festival Musical de Namur
At this year’s Festival International d’Opéra Baroque Beaune, Matthew Newlin will appear as Argirio in Rossini’s Tancredi. In addition, he will sing the role of Zadock in Handel’s Solomon in Beaune and at the Festival Musical de Namur.
Macerata Opera Festival
Carmen Giannattasio will sing the title role in Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca at this year’s Macerata Opera Festival. Performances will take place on the 22nd, 24th, 29th and 31st of July 2022 in the impressive Arena Sferisterio.
Munich Opera Festival
After the cancellation of the Capriccio series at the Opéra national de Paris due to the Corona pandemic, Diana Damrau will finally make her debut as the Countess in David Marton’s new production of Capriccio, at the Munich Opera Festival.
The premiere will take place on July 17 at 7 p.m. at the Prinzregententheater, with further performances on July 20, 23, 25 & 27.
Camilla Nylund sings at the Munich Opera Festival the role of Die Kaiserin in Richard Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten. Performances are on 28th and 31st of Juli.
Stefan Soltész returns to the Munich Opera Festival as conductor in Richard Strauss’ Die schweigsame Frau (The silent woman).
The performance will take place on July 22 at the National Theater in Munich.
Pesaro Rossini Opera Festival
Maria Kataeva wird beim Rossini Opera Festival als Isolier in Le Comte Ory zu erleben sein. Vorstellungen sind am 09., 12., 16. & 19. August.
Rheingau Musikfestival
Lioba Braun will sing the Alto part in Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Elijah at the Rheingau Music Festival. The concert will take place on 24 July.
Carmen Artaza will sing the alto solo in Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s Paulus at the Rheingau Music Festival with the Akademie für Alte Musik on July 22.
Salzburg Festival
Hanna Schwarz will be seen as La Badessa in Christoph Loy’s new production of Puccini’s Suor Angelica.
The performances will take place on the 29th of July, 05th, 09th, 13th, 18th, 21st of August.
Savonlinna Opera Festival
Martin Muehle will sing Radames in Verdi’s Aida at this year’s Opera Festival in Savonlinna. Performances are on the 12th, 16th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd of July:
Oper im Steinbruch
Jinxu Xiahou will be singing Ismaele in Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco.
The performances will take place between 13 July and 20 August.
Verbier Festival
AJ Glueckert singt Beethovens 9 Sinfonie auch am 18. Juli beim Verbier Festival.
Ludovic Tézier (see above) sings Renato (Un ballo in maschera) on the 25th of July.
Arena di Verona
Günther Groissböck sings Ramfis in Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida, performances are on th 03rd & 08th of July.
Sava Vemić already made his debut at the Arena di Verona as Il Re in Verdi’s Aida.
The performances took place on 18, 23 June & 03 July.
