Alexandra Marcellier

Alexandra Marcellier has established herself as one of the most exciting artists of her generation in recent years, making her debut as Vitellia in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito at the Salzburg Festival in 2024, followed by her triumphant debut at the Opéra Bastille in Paris as Cio-Cio San, which she took over at short notice in the final performance of the Madama Butterfly series. Her interpretation of Cio-Cio-San at the Opéra de Marseille was subsequently acclaimed by press and public alike. The year 2025 began for Alexandra Marcellier with her acclaimed debut as Blanche de la Force in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites at the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, followed by her role debut as Nedda in Pagliacci at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne.

 

In 2023, she was named ‘Discovery of the Year’ by Victoires de la Musique Classique after she shone in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito on a European tour with the Musiciens du Prince orchestra, together with Cecilia Bartoli. She also appeared as Micaëla in Bizet’s Carmen at the Opéra de Marseille, with the Chorégies d’Orange and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, as Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff at the Opéra de Nice, as Cio-Cio-San at the Frankfurt Opera and as Blanche de la Force at the Opéra de Liège.

 

In 2021, she sang the First Nymph in Dvořák’s Rusalka at the Opéra de Limoges and in the same season took on the role of Cio-Cio San in Madama Butterfly in her debut at the Opéra de Saint-Étienne, which she subsequently also sang at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. In 2022, she performed in Poulenc’s La Voix humaine at the Milan Auditorium and took part in an international tour dedicated to the music of Joe Hisaishi.

 

In 2018, she made her professional debut at the Opéra National de Bordeaux in Rossini’s Stabat Mater. She then sang the role of Gabriel in Haydn’s The Creation at the Musica Sacra Festival in her home town of Perpignan. She also sang Eurydice in Gluck’s Orphée et Eurydice with the vocal ensemble Arian Médoc and sang Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the L’Eure Poétique et Musicale festival in 2019.

 

Alexandra Marcellier began her musical education at the age of 6 on the violin. At the age of 19, she decided to study voice and received her training at the Bordeaux Conservatoire with soprano Maryse Castets. In 2015, Alexandra Marcellier won the ‘Jeune Espoir’ prize at the ‘Concours international des Amis du Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux’. For three consecutive years, she deepened her training with soprano Silvana Bazzoni-Bartoli at the Gstaad Menuhin Festival. Her success at the Osaka Competition in 2017 led to her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York with a gala concert.
