Pavel Baleff

Pavel Baleff is Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Limoges Opera, General Music Director of the Nordhausen Theater and the Loh Orchestra Sondershausen. Between 2007 and 2022, Pavel Baleff was Chief Conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra, which he will continue to serve as “Conductor in Residence”. He is also principal guest conductor of the Varna State Opera in Bulgaria.

 

Engagements as an opera and concert conductor have taken him to the Vienna State Opera, the Zurich Opera House, the Dresden Semperoper, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Hamburg State Opera, the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, the Mikhaylovsky Theater in St. Petersburg, the Opera National Montpellier, the Opera National Montpellier and the Philharmonie Baden-Baden. Peterburg, the Opera National Montpellier, as well as numerous orchestras such as the WDR and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestras, the Danish National Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and many others. He has conducted performances, television recordings and CD productions with internationally renowned soloists such as Krassimira Stoyanova, Diana Damrau, Edita Gruberova, Ramon Vargas, Anne Sophie Mutter, Anna Netrebko, Thomas Hampson and Piotr Beczala.

 

In 2012, a CD production with soprano Krassimira Stoyanova and the Munich Radio Orchestra conducted by Pavel Baleff was awarded the “Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik” and the “International Classic Music Award”. The “Verdi” and “Verismo” recitals with Krassimira Stoyanova under his direction won the German Record Critics’ Award in 2014 and 2017. He was voted Bulgarian “Conductor of the Year” on the occasion of his first performance of Richard Wagner’s “Ring der Nibelungen” in Bulgaria at the National Opera in Sofia.

 

Pavel Baleff teaches conducting at the Mannheim University of Music and gives masterclasses at the Zurich University of Music and has been a regular guest at the Conductors’ Forum of the German Music Council since 2011.
